The most prized color of topaz is called Imperial Topaz after the Russian Czars of the 1800’s who loved this beautiful gemstone. Topaz is associated with rocks, such as granite, and is formed in cavities when lava flows. Topaz Mountain in western Utah is a good example of where Topaz is formed.
